Mumbai monorail is a major extension of the public transport system of Mumbai. The
Mumbai Monorail project was commissioned by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development
Authority (MMRDA) to a private company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited in partnership
with Malaysian Infrastructure firm Scomi Engineering Bhd. The Mumbai Monorail trains
were inaugurated on February 1, 2014. At the time of inauguration, the initial price
of a single ticket was Rs.5. the Mumbai Monorail train can clock a top speed of
80 k.m./hour with an average speed of 65 kilometers per hour. The Mumbai Monorail
initially operated from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm. But, it has been extended from 7.00
am to 7.00 pm. It is expected to be further extended from 5.00 am till midnight
in the coming few days.
