Mumbai Metro trains are till now limited only to a few stations. Other stations and areas are being covered by the metro rail line gradually. Metros rail is basically an alternate route other than the local trains. Mumbai metro trains has the biggest benefit of decongesting the traffic and the rush of people in the Mumbai local trains. The Mumbai metro trains were commissioned to Reliance Industries Limited by the Government of Maharashtra. The trains were designed and manufactured by Reliance, and currently they have the contract to run, maintain and collect money from the Mumbai Metro trains. As of 2014 data, as many as 1.5 million people travel daily on these Mumbai Metro trains. Whereas, the average daily riders stand at 2.7 lakh people. Mumbai metro takes an average time of 21 minutes to travel from the first to the last station.

Mumbai monorail is a major extension of the public transport system of Mumbai. The Mumbai Monorail project was commissioned by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to a private company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited in partnership with Malaysian Infrastructure firm Scomi Engineering Bhd. The Mumbai Monorail trains were inaugurated on February 1, 2014. At the time of inauguration, the initial price of a single ticket was Rs.5. the Mumbai Monorail train can clock a top speed of 80 k.m./hour with an average speed of 65 kilometers per hour. The Mumbai Monorail initially operated from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm. But, it has been extended from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm. It is expected to be further extended from 5.00 am till midnight in the coming few days.

As explained above, Mumbai Central Line contains a total of 24 railway stations from the historic Chhatrapati Sivaji Terminus to Kalyan Junction. The Central Rail Line also consists of several major suburban stations. The Central Line has also extended to stations and areas like Byculla, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Mulund, and Donbivali stations. The Central Local Railway line runs close to 825 trains between its stations. A whopping number of 2.9 million commuters’ daily travel on the trains operating on the Central Railway Line.
