The BEST bus routes are spread citywide and the neighbouring cities. Inter-city
services are extended to three areas beyond the municipal limits of Mumbai i.e.
Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mira – Bhayander.
BEST routes are broadly classified into the following categories:
- Feeder Routes: Feeder Routes are initiated from either residential complexes and/or
business districts.
- East-west connectors: They run from East-West and vice versa. They run in routes
where railways has no role to play and connect the two suburbs to each other.
- Trunk routes: These routes run parallel to the railways and connect the North to
the South.
- AC express routes: These trains provide faster and better services to commuters
and run on the Eastern and Western Express Highways.
- AC standard routes: They are standard AC routes spread across the busiest areas
of the city.
The BEST have several payment options for the commuters:
- Single journey (Bus conductor issues a paper ticket).
- "Daily travel as you like" pass (issued for a day).
- Bus pass (Go Mumbai Smart Card).
- Prepaid RFID Smart Card.
The fares vary depending on the type and route of the bus. Paper tickets are valid
only for a single journey. There are discounts on monthly and quarterly passes for
students and discounts on weekly, fortnightly, monthly and quarterly passes for
senior citizens.
Commuters even have the option of buying a daily pass, distance-wise buss pass and
